Why a website about orchids?
In my early days of growing orchids the information that was available was sparse, books were expensive and the knowledge was so diverse. I decided to provide a place where everyone could learn from my studies and my experiences and yes, my failures. Beginners were able to understand my down-to-earth approach in the articles I wrote about Cattleyas, Phalenopis, Vandas and Cymbidiums, just to name a few types.
I shared with every one the tricks of light , fertilizers , humidity and temperatures while growing many different species of orchids myself in my greenhouses .
I took many pictures to share with everyone and used then to expand my website. |
In the early days of the Internet new sites received attention and encouragement by granting awards to each other. Alas, by time this custom became misused to the extent that nowadays sites, which once deservedly received recognition shy away from displaying their Awards.
Which is a pity, because the award emblems, plaquets were often noteworthy computer graphics artworks, representing "bleeding edge" computer graphics work of their times.
Regrettably, by today very many excellent websites disappeared without any trace from the web. Therefore, In Memoriam of that initially kind and benign custom I decided to preserve at least some evidence that once they existed. Here they are, rescued from the Internet Archives.
In addition to all the more than one hundred and eighty awards the Orchid Pages has received between 1996 and 2002 from many wonderful people, my humble site also received write-ups and acknowledgements in the following places and publications: |
